The Institute of Marine Ecology and Environment is consisted of two research groups including the Research Group of Marine Environmental Pollution and Ecological Effect and the Research Group of Marine Ecology Protection. There are ten research fellows in the Institute of Marine Ecology and Environment including one professor, one associated professor, and eight assistant professors.

The following topics are currently studied including:

    1. Climate change and marine ecological disaster

The sources and sinks of nutrients in coastal water; The influences of nutrients on marine ecological disaster and their spatial and temporal occurrences in coastal water; The influences of climate changeon the recurring and overwintering of ecological disaster.

    2. Biodiversity and ecosystem evolution in coastal zone

Seaweed biodiversity and spatiotemporal variability; coastal ecosystem shift based on ecological niche models; plankton distribution, physiology, and intraspecies interaction; survey and protection of estuarine and coastal ecosystems; aquaculture carrying capacity; development and evaluation of marine ecological restoration.

    3. Sources, biogeochemical cycles, and ecological effects of toxic substances in coastal zone

Spatial and temporal occurrences of nutrients, heavy metals, persistent organic pollutants, microplasticsand algal toxicants in coastal zone; bioaccumulation and biomagnification of toxic substances in coastal zone.

    4. Marine ecological restoration

Degradation of toxic substances with microorganisms, phytoplankton, and macrophyte.
