The College of Oceanography at Hohai University was founded on Oct. 18, 2015. The history of its education dates back to 1957 as a Marine hydrology program.The College of Oceanography offers undergraduate degree, master, doctor’s degrees and postdoc programsin Marine sciences. The undergraduate course of Marine Science is the key specialty program of Jiangsu Province. The Marine science is selected into the development programs of advanced disciplines in JiangsuProvince (Phase two and Phase three).The Physical Oceanography program is one of the key construction disciplines in Jiangsu Province.
The College currently comprises three departments: the Department of Physical Oceanography, the Department of Marine Biology and the Department of Marine Geology and Geophysics.It consists of 10 research institutes covering topics of marine multiscale dynamic processes, air-sea interactions and climate change, polar oceans and meteorology, observations and simulations, data assimilations and predictions, marine environmental engineering, marine ecological environment, marine biotechnology and bio-resource utilization, marine geology and marine geophysics. The college has a research center for marine science experiments with ~2200 m2 occupation in total.A key laboratory of the Ministry of Natural Resources for marine disaster prediction technology is jointly established with the National Marine Environmental Prediction Center.
The college is renowned for its strong and experienced staff. Currently, there are 82 full-time faculty members, including 17 professors, 23 associate professors and 42 lecturers. All of them own doctoral degree, and around 70% have overseas educational background or work experience. The distinguished professors and their honorable titles include one double-employed academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, two senior foreign professors, one winner of theNational High-level Talent Programs, onenational excellent youth fund scholars, and onedistinguished youth fund scholars of Jiangsu Province.
